Backflow work is not exactly the kind of service most people wake up thinking about every morning.
That is part of what makes marketing our business interesting.
Customers do not necessarily spend their free time researching backflow services. In many cases, they start looking when they have a specific requirement, a compliance concern, a testing need, or a problem that needs professional attention. When that happens, they need to find a company that understands the work.
We wanted Backflow Joe’s to be easier to discover when those searches happened.
That was the thinking behind our decision to work with Oastreck, and we are now one year into that relationship.
We Wanted the Internet to Explain What We Do
One of the first things we realized was that our business is not self-explanatory to everyone.
Someone can hear the name Backflow Joe’s and know that we do something related to backflow. But that does not necessarily tell them what services we provide or why they should contact us.
Our website therefore needed to do some explaining.
Through Oastreck’s Web Development work, we were able to approach the website with a much more practical question: if someone has just discovered our business and knows very little about us, can they understand what we do?
That became more important than simply making the site look modern.
A good website should answer questions.
It should give customers enough information to understand the business and enough confidence to take the next step.
That is what we wanted our website to do.
Our Maps Listing Became Another Part of the Story
At the same time, we started paying closer attention to Google Maps.
Local search matters because customers often want a service provider who actually operates in their area. Someone searching for backflow services is not looking for a company that happens to have a nice website somewhere across the country. They want someone relevant to their location and their needs.
Our Maps presence therefore became an important part of how Backflow Joe’s is introduced online.
Oastreck has worked with us on Maps throughout our partnership, helping us take a more consistent approach to our local presence.
It is easy to overlook these details when you are busy running a business. We used to think that if our information was already there, that was enough.
Now we understand that being present and being properly represented are two different things.
SEO Helped Us Think About the Questions Customers Actually Ask
The SEO side of our work was particularly interesting because it forced us to think beyond our own terminology.
We know our industry. We know the services. We know the questions we hear from customers.
But a person searching online may use a completely different language.
Working on Web SEO with Oastreck gave us a more structured way to think about how our website could connect with those searches. Instead of assuming people would automatically find us because the website existed, we started looking at the information from the searcher’s point of view.
What would they type?
What would they want to know?
Which service would they be looking for?
What information would help them decide whether we are worth contacting?
Those questions made our website more purposeful.
Then We Started Exploring AI
AI has also been part of our work with Oastreck.
For us, AI is interesting because it can easily become a buzzword if it is not connected to an actual business need. We were not interested in adding technology simply because it sounded impressive.
We wanted to understand where AI could genuinely support the way we work online.
That has been one of the more interesting parts of the relationship because it encouraged us to think about technology practically rather than treating it as something separate from the business.
The goal is not to replace the knowledge and experience behind Backflow Joe’s. It is to use better tools where they can make the business more organized, visible, and efficient.
That distinction is important to us.
One Year In, the Biggest Difference Is How We Think
We have now been working with Oastreck for a year across Maps, Web SEO, AI, and Web Development.
When we look back, the biggest change is probably our own attitude toward online marketing.
Before, it was easy to think of digital marketing as something businesses were supposed to do because everyone else was doing it.
Now we understand why it matters specifically to us.
People need to find us.
They need to understand what we do.
They need to be able to evaluate the business.
And they need a simple way to take the next step.
That is a much more useful way for us to think about our online presence.
We Still Want the Business to Feel Human
There is one thing we have not changed. We do not want technology to make Backflow Joe’s feel impersonal.
Customers still want to speak with knowledgeable people. They still want clear answers. They still want the job handled properly. The online side should support that experience, not replace it.
That is why we have appreciated working with Oastreck. The Maps, SEO, AI, and website work have all been connected to the same goal: representing our actual business better online.
One year into the partnership, we feel much more confident about that side of Backflow Joe’s. The internet is not our business. It is one of the places where people discover our business. Understanding that difference has probably been the most useful lesson of all.
